In my head, photography looked like portraits. I envisioned photos of faces conveying a range of emotions through expression. I started with my daughter but when her patience waned, I put my face in front of the lens. I’ve recently taken on clients, at no cost, to develop my portrait portfolio. These “clients” are more like trusting friends who are supporting me and won’t mind if they get a handful of good photos out of it. My portfolio will grow but I’ve included a few examples of what I’ve come up with so far. More to come and please visit my blog for stories on my free portrait sessions.

I’ve loved to travel since I was a kid. I grew up in Michigan but lived in Florida and Virginia before moving to California in 2003. I’ve been in Truckee for several years which sits about 13 miles north of Lake Tahoe.
These shots are from my travels through Oregon and time spent exploring my backyard in Northern California and Nevada.
I’m also an angler so I’ve included pictures from my favorite spots to fly-fish.

I am new to photography. I’ve thought about learning for years but didn’t start until May of last year. I started with Milky Way photography since it was prime season and dark skies were abundant. More recently, I’ve explored landscape and portrait. Some of my favorite photos are part of my creative series cataloged on this page.
Several pictures in this series are selfies, though not all. I don’t have a remote, so I rely on the 10 second timer and some preplanning. I could use my iPhone as a remote but I’d have to hide it and I rarely have time to figure that out. Plus, use of the phone app drains my battery quickly. So, I spend a lot of time running to a from my camera for these shots. I’m sure there’s a better way but for now, this system works.
These photos were taken in North Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake in Truckee California and Pyramid Lake in Northern Nevada. I’m still learning how to edit but enjoy it almost as much as planning and taking the photos. Of all the photos I’ve taken, these are the most fulfilling. I love landscape photography but think the photos are more interesting with people in the shot. I don’t focus on my face because I think the anonymity makes it easier for others to connect to the image.
I hope you enjoy and appreciate comments/feedback.
